You’re wondering what the difference is between the David Hawkins Scale and Ágatha’s Scale?

First, I want to say that discovering the Scale of Consciousness was probably one of the most important things in my life. Initially, I came across David Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness. Later, I discovered Ágatha’s Scale — more recent and more comprehensive.

So, let’s explore the Hawkins and Ágatha Scales and their differences!

What is the Scale of Consciousness?

The Scale of Consciousness presents a gradation of vibrational frequency based on our feelings and emotions. In short, we are all energy, and what we feed into our energy field creates a pattern that can be measured and identified on this scale. Each level has its own way of responding to life and perceiving the world.

More recently, studies such as those from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have shown that the brain naturally tunes into one frequency at a time, similar to how a radio works. Thomas Edison had also already spoken about this human ability to emit and receive waves.

These findings are widely applied in the fields of quantum physics and spirituality, especially due to their influence on the biofield (an area recognized in science and medicine) and in the application of the law of attraction.

You can check out this episode of the Saúde Desperta podcast where I talk about the Scales and, at minute 43:28, about some of the differences:

The Map of Consciousness by David Hawkins

David Hawkins developed the original “Map of Consciousness” in the 1990s, using arbitrary exponential values to represent levels of vibration with the following information:

Notice that we have the following columns:

  • States of Consciousness (“level of consciousness”)
  • Numerical Scale (“Levels”)
  • View of God
  • View of Life
  • Emotions
  • Process

The first column names the level of consciousness, while the others describe what each aspect looks like at that state. In other words, our view of God, life, emotions, and processes change according to the range we are aligned with.

It starts at 20, “Shame,” and goes up to 700–1,000, “Enlightenment.”

How was the Hawkins Scale of Consciousness mapped?

Hawkins used muscle testing to identify the body’s response to energetic stimuli. In other words, he leveraged how the human body reacts with strength (muscles remain firm) to true or high-vibration stimuli, and weakens with false or low-vibration stimuli.

What does that mean? Here’s a practical example of the test:

  1. A volunteer extends their arm;
  2. Another person makes a statement (e.g., “Love is powerful”);
  3. At the same time, gentle pressure is applied to the extended arm;
  4. If the arm remains firm, the statement is “strong” = high vibration;
  5. If the arm gives way, the statement is “weak” = low vibration.

How was the Hawkins Scale quantified?

Dr. David Hawkins hired a professional statistician and organized the results into a logarithmic scale from 0 to 1000, where:

  • 0 represents absence of consciousness (total unconsciousness);
  • 200 is the turning point between destructive and constructive forces;
  • 1000 represents great enlightened masters (such as Buddha and Christ).

How was the Hawkins Scale validated?

In addition to his personal experience described in his book, David Hawkins also conducted tests with groups of people to obtain a kind of “collective consciousness” regarding emotions, behaviors, books, people, ideas, and more.

Although his studies began earlier, the Map of Consciousness was first published in the book “Power vs. Force” by Dr. David Hawkins in 1995.

The Ágatha Scale

More recently, in this century, the Ágatha Scale emerged. It is a tool for mapping the evolution of human consciousness through vibrational frequencies, adopting Hertz (Hz) as the unit of measurement.

How was the Ágatha Scale mapped and quantified?

The Ágatha Scale was channeled by Jackson and Kandy Engler, from Ágatha Evolução (Instagram: @agatha_evolucao). Channeling consists of receiving information from higher spiritual beings.

What is the difference between the Ágatha Scale and Hawkins’?

Compared to David Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness, the Ágatha Scale differs not only in its time of creation, authorship, and development method, but also in the following aspects:

  • The addition of 4 “Worlds”;
  • The creation of 8 “Ranges”;
  • 9 new states of consciousness, totaling 25;
  • Guidance on where to focus in order to elevate from each vibrational frequency.

These subdivisions make it easier to understand the state associated with each vibrational range.

Here are the four “Worlds,” which represent different stages of spiritual and emotional development:

  • World of Terror: Frequencies below 0 Hz, characterized by states of extreme despair;
  • World of Illusion: From 0 Hz to 400 Hz, where ego imbalances and limiting beliefs predominate;
  • World of Evolution: From 400 Hz to 700 Hz, associated with spiritual awakening and personal growth;
  • World of Expansion: Above 700 Hz, related to higher states of consciousness and enlightenment.

In addition, the eight Level ranges that group certain vibrations and characteristics:

  • Primitive
  • Attachment
  • Movement
  • Intention
  • Wisdom
  • Service
  • Flow of Life
  • Conscious

Also, the new frequencies, all above the level of reason (400):

  • Abundance, 430
  • Hope, 480
  • Surrender, 520
  • (Omission of 540, Joy, in comparison to Hawkins’ Map)
  • Compassion, 550
  • Wholeness, 580
  • Clarity, 660
  • Connection, 720
  • Gratitude, 800
  • Plenitude, 1000

The Ágatha Scale also includes guidance on where to focus in order to develop and elevate more effectively based on the frequency compatible with our Vibrational Identity — our predominant energy pattern.

Conclusion

We have different ways of arriving at very similar insights — which resulted in these scales of consciousness: one based more on scientific methods, and the other more on spiritual approaches. The more recent scale enriches and complements David Hawkins’ original work, bringing additional information about previously unmapped levels of consciousness, while also making the practical application of these insights easier for personal growth.
